چکیده
Diagnosis Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) measurement: Measurement of serum ALP activity has been used as a screening test for HAC. However, the best way to use measurement of ALP activity may be as a means to rule out the diagnosis of HAC. The sensitivity of this laboratory test is high, as ALP is above normal in 90% of dogs with HAC. 2 However, the specificity is very low. Scottish terriers are now recognized as a breed that has higher serum ALP activity than do other breeds. (Of note, vacuolar hepatopathy is not specific for HAC either.)

Clinical judgment to estimate pretest probability in the diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome under a Bayesian perspective Contribuição do julgamento clínico na estimativa da probabilidade pré-teste do diagnóstico da síndrome de Cushing sob a perspectiva Bayesiana
Objective: To estimate the pretest probability of Cushing’s syndrome (CS) diagnosis by a Bayesian approach using intuitive clinical judgment. Materials and methods: Physicians were requested, in seven endocrinology meetings, to answer three questions: “Based on your personal expertise, after obtaining clinical history and physical examination, without using laboratorial tests, what is your prob...
متن کاملImmune Rebound: Multiple Sclerosis after Treatment of Cushing’s disease
High cortisol level in endogenous Cushing’s syndrome suppresses the immune system and after treatment there may be an over activity of immune reaction leading to autoimmune diseases mostly thyroid and rheumatologic disorders. This is the second reported case of multiple sclerosis developing after treatment of Cushing’s syndrome. A 42-year old man is reported who presented with bone fracture and...
متن کاملCushing’s syndrome associated with typical, peripheral pulmonary carcinoid tumor and N2 lymph node metastasis: case report
Background: The bronchopulmonary carcinoid tumor accounts for 1-2% of all adult malignancies of the lung and 20-30% of all carcinoid tumors. Cushing’s syndrome is the result of chronic exposure to increased concentration of exogenous or endo-genus cortisol hormone, and it is generally associated with central obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. Treatment is based on decreasing cortiso...

Cushing’s syndrome which is an uncommon but lethal disorder occurs due to many causes. The most common endogenous cause is Cushing’s disease or pituitary Cushing. The etiology of this disorder is an adenoma in the anterior pituitary. The most important point in the treatment of this disorder is differentiation between Cushing’s disease (pituitary) and Cushing’s syndrome (adrenal). We can differ...
متن کاملSubclinical Cushing's Syndrome and Metabolic Disorder
The concept of subclinical Cushing’s syndrome stands on the presence of adrenocorticotropic hormone-independent subclinical hypercortisolism without a clear Cushingoid phenotype and may be observed in patients with an incidentally found adrenal adenoma [1]. Kim et al. [2] found that the prevalence of subclinical Cushing’s syndrome in Korean patients with adrenal incidentaloma was 7.1% (19 of 26...
